Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) June 17, 2009 -- Steve Jobs, the famous CEO of Apple Inc, said, "Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower." One local home builder knows the truth in that statement. While the national housing market is not doing well, business has never been better at Heartland Homes. In fact, Heartland had its best year ever in 2008, and in a recent report of 1st quarter housing permits, Heartland leads all other home builders in the area by over 30%.

What's the secret? Heartland Homes' Founder Alan Gillespie thinks it is "Great people doing great work -- and always looking to do better. We do our best to innovate and stay ahead of the curve. We want to be in position to offer our customers more of what they want."

In just six months, Heartland has designed over fifteen new custom floor plans, built five new model homes, opened four new communities including its first lake front community in Morgantown, and made every home it builds a Heartland Healthy Home.

"We really wanted to focus on the whole picture of the green movement. We did a lot of research and we found that the three most important things people want from a green home are energy savings, cleaner air quality, and environmentally friendly building practices," said Heartland's marketing director. "So now every home we build includes an air cleaner, and is efficient enough to save you up to $2,500 a year on utility bills compared to an average existing home."

They haven't stopped there. Due to all the custom changes and selections that customers are making they created an entirely new position in the company - a construction concierge. The concierge meets customers at one of Heartland's two new Dream Design Centers and helps them select the finishing touches to their new home. Scott Blodgett, Heartland's COO said "It's all about helping our customers enjoy the experience of building a custom home. We want to make it easy."

Heartland has been Pittsburgh's #1 custom home builder for a while, but they didn't expect to become the largest builder in the region overall. "Our goal is to be the best home builder, not the biggest. We just continue to grow every year," said Alan.
